A · Grade 1 admissions

Grade 1 intake for the next year.

Total Grade 1 places: 60 (two classes of 30). Feeder zone: Manthestad and the immediate Taung area, including the Pudimoe and Buxton wards. Eligibility: children turning 6 by 30 June of the year of enrolment.

Documents we ask for:

  • Certified copy of the child’s unabridged birth certificate
  • Road-to-Health booklet / immunisation card
  • School report from the previous school (if any)
  • Certified copy of parent or guardian ID / passport
  • Proof of residence (utility bill or affidavit)

The interview: a 20-minute family chat with the Grade R teacher and a small-group play observation for the child. This is not a test. We are checking that we can support your child — nothing more.

Outcome: letter of offer or waiting-list within four weeks of the interview.

B · Transfers & mid-year intake

Transfers from Grade 2 to Grade 7.

Mid-year transfers are subject to space in the relevant grade. We accept transfers in any term provided the family supplies the SA-SAMS transfer card from the previous school plus the documents listed above.

Process: phone the school office, book a transfer interview, attach the SA-SAMS card and the most recent report. We try to confirm within ten working days.

Special needs & full-service status: Manthe is registered as a Full-Service School. Where reasonable accommodation is possible, we work with the SBST and the local district office to enrol learners with mild to moderate barriers to learning.

Common questions

What Manthe parents most often ask.

If your question is not below, phone the school office on 081 525 2254 — we will answer plainly.

Applications open in May and close on 30 September each year. We try not to overload one channel — you can drop forms in person at the school office, post them, or send via the contact page on this site.
Manthe is a No-Fee Section 21 school: school fees are R0. There are a few small optional contributions for stationery, sports day and excursions, which are fully waivable. The SGB also runs a small uniform-and-shoes hardship fund — ask the office in confidence.
Every learner receives a hot lunch through the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) at 12:00 each school day — pap, morogo, beans and a piece of fruit; chicken or fish twice a week. The menu is on the kitchen chalkboard and reviewed termly by the SGB.
Yes — for families more than 3km away. We coordinate two PrDP-licensed minibus drivers serving four collection points around Manthestad and Taung. Drivers are vetted annually; routes and pickup times go out at the start of each term.
Average class size is 30 in Foundation Phase and 32 in Intermediate Phase. With 18 educators serving 490 learners, our school-wide ratio sits at 1:27 — below the provincial average of about 1:32.
Our Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) is English from Grade 4 onwards. Foundation Phase (Grade R–3) is taught primarily in Setswana with structured English Home Language and oral introduction. Setswana FAL continues to Grade 7.
Foundation Phase: 15 minutes of reading aloud at home, four nights a week. Intermediate Phase: 30–45 minutes of reading + maths practice, four nights a week. We do not believe in busy-work; we believe in reading practice that becomes a habit.
Aftercare runs from 16:00 to 17:15 every school day, included free for working-parent families. The gate is locked at 17:30 sharp. Mr Khoza walks the school perimeter to make sure no child is left behind.
Manthe is a registered Full-Service School. Where reasonable accommodation is possible, our SBST (School-Based Support Team) works with the district office to enrol learners with mild to moderate barriers to learning. Please book a conversation with Mr Dlamini, our Wellbeing Lead, before applying so we can be honest about what we can and cannot offer.
Bring the SA-SAMS transfer card from the previous school plus the standard documents (birth certificate, immunisation card, ID copy, proof of residence, latest report). We confirm placement within ten working days, depending on space in the relevant grade.
