“Ms Botha emails me every Friday with one small win Tumi had at school that week. I had never had a teacher do that before. It changed how my son talks about school.”
Made with our families — not just for them.
A primary school is only ever as strong as its parents. Below are four honest words from Manthe parents, and the six concrete ways we work together every term.
In our parents’ own words.
Four real Manthe parents and grandparents. We did not edit the sentences — we just translated a few from Setswana.
“When my Karabo was struggling with reading, the Foundation Phase team did not call me in to lecture me. Mr Dlamini sat down with us at our kitchen table. We made a plan together. Six months later, she is fine.”
“I am Boitumelo’s gogo. I have raised three of my own children and now this granddaughter. Manthe is the first school where the principal greeted me by name on the second day I came here. That mattered to me.”
“I work shifts at the clinic in Taung. Aftercare here means I can pick my Lerato up at 17:00 without feeling guilty. The teachers don’t make me feel like a bad mother because I work late. That is rare.”
Six concrete ways we work with you.
No long manifesto — just six things we actually do, and the dates we do them.
Parent-teacher meetings
Two scheduled meetings a term — week 4 and week 9 — plus open one-on-ones any time you ask. Booked at the school office.

Open Days
Three Open Days each year (March, July and October). All classrooms open. The kitchen is open. The principal pours the tea.

Parent volunteer rota
Sign up for one morning a month. Help at arrival, lunch service or storybook reading. No experience needed; only kindness.

School Governing Body (SGB)
Seven elected parents serve a three-year term on our SGB. Elections every March. The SGB approves budgets, the menu and our safety policy.
Class WhatsApp lists
Each class has a teacher-moderated WhatsApp list. Daily announcement, homework reminder, two photos a week. No spam.
Family fun days
Two family events a year — the Heritage Day picnic and the Parent-Child Sports Afternoon. Everyone races. Everyone loses gracefully.
We believe the best education is co-created by school and family.
